gems and saphires are mainly found in fow and underworld. They are rearer than ectos shards. I have yet to see one fall in nightfall.

Until I get armor storage I won't be buying any new armor and I'd guess the same is true for many people. If we get armor storage watch the price of rare materials increase.

Also, if Anet holds off for a long time on adding insignia's to old armor including FoW armor watch the price of Ruby/Sapphire armor increase.

i sold 50 rubies & 50 sapphires to the merchant when prices were ~4k because i thought that prices were going to drop

the whole trading in trade contracts for the mats through me off because i just assumed that the quests would be repeatable like in factions. assuming makes more an ass out of me then u... boo boo. you win some you lose some, oh well

I have had ectos, shards and black dye drop for me. I have only had 1 sapphire drop for me since I started playing 14 months ago-------I believe that rubies and sapphires are more rare than ecto and shards, or even black dye (got 2 of them last week NOT during the double dye weekend). We know where to get ecto and shards......dye is kinda random, but who knows for sure where the gems drop?

Yeah, I sold my investment of the gems for about 4k each, thinking there was no way they were going to keep on climbing like they have :P

Out of curiosity, do they have any use outside of Vabbi 5k armor?
Remember when Guild Wars: Factions came out? With Ambers and Jades into 2k and higher, what do we see now? They're below 1k, now some of you will say that oh you can just farm for jades/ambers well guess what you can trade in quest rewards for them. The price for them will probably be in the 2k range in my opinion.

i always thought that rubies being marked "rare" and with the same inherent value as ectos (100g), that they should be fairly hard to obtain. Also unless there is a specific mob you can farm gems for, they seem to drop far less than ecto does. In ~19 months of playing, I've had maybe 25 sapphires and 20 rubies drop for me. I've noticed sapphires drop much more often.. but maybe because I hang out more in UW than FOW too.

I really hope the prices don't go up, I wouldn't want to be tempted to part w/ the glittery stacks of gems I've collected through out the months =)

Think rubies and sapphires will be the next ectos and shards standard in GW?

Ruby and Sapphires are very rare, and I believe their price will continue to climb. IMO, they'll go to around 12k before they get stablized.

So they'll become almost the next version of ectos and shards. Only it's for those armors in Nightfall right?

Nobody knows for sure.

Don't forgot we currently only has UW and FoW for Balthazzar and Greneth, what about Lyssa and Melandru?

There may be other godly armors too.

I doubt rubies and sapphires will become the next ecto and shard standard. they'll remain expensive, to be sure, but much like black dye was worth more than ecto, ive never seen someone posting "selling req 8 fellblade 100k+ XX black dyes". also, their use remains (unless im missing something huge from factions/prophecies) limited to one campaign for a pretty specific purpose, wheras ectos (or at least areas where you get ectos/shards are accessible from all campaigns), therefore the amount of people willing to accept jewels as trade items will probably be less than people who will continue to accept ecto as a sort of high level currency.

sapphires are only 1k away from over taking ectos

both gems and sapphires have over taken fow shards and the prices are still claiming

i think vabbi is the new elite armor of gw

i think as more people buy nightfall the price will really fly. there is more ectos out there than there is gems and more so sapphires

I think everything a player sells is over priced.

Thank God (oh um goodness for the PC, people out there) there is no government in this game, or you all would be prosecuted for price gouging.

I was short on gold yesterday and found that i got one sapphires inside my storage. Took it to the material trader and sold it for 5K. I'm still surprise how high both jewel prices are.. Rubies is at 5k and Sapphires is around 6.5k or 7k.

This is exactly what I feared would happen once they finally implemented a use for gems...

looking through the NF armor thread, there's a lot of nice Vabbi armor out there. But holding my stacks of gems is like making paper profits on stocks.. so I guess when I get to the town I better start liquidating my piles of gems.

Anyone got a diamond drop yet? That'll be my next collection of shinies hehe
